A Prayer For Our Leaders

A Prayer For Our Leaders

On Sunday at The Harbor we presented a prayer for our leaders, based on 1 Timothy 2:1-2. I thought it might be helpful to include a model of this prayer for those who want it.

You can use the text below, or you can download a free PDF of the prayer HERE or by clicking on the image to the left.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.

(Written as a prayer for a married man with kids and grandkids, like President Biden. It is easily adaptable for a female or someone who is single or doesn’t have children.)

I pray for (name). I pray you would make him the man, husband, father, grandfather, and friend YOU want him to be. May they then be the leader You’ve called them to be. May he lead according to Your will whether he realizes it or not.

I pray you will help him. Fill him with purity and integrity. Give him wisdom, courage, boldness, humility, discernment, rest, clarity, patience, peace (and anything else the Lord brings to mind).

Silence the voice of our enemy satan in his life and lift up Your voice and counsel.

May our country (or city, state, etc.) have peace and prosperity, understanding that its welfare will determine our welfare. (Jeremiah 29:7)

I intercede on his behalf. Surround him with Your presence, power, people, protection, and provision so that it points him to You. Strategically place people around him to encourage, challenge, convict, and equip him in You.

May he have not just have a professed faith, but a personal and practiced one, understanding the truth. May his faith be firmly rooted in Jesus Christ. (1 Timothy 2:3-6)

I pray for his children and grandchildren (you can pray for them by name). May the way Your followers talk about and treat their dad and grandpa not keep them from following Jesus.

Protect him from any attack of the enemy, spiritually, emotionally, physically, or mentally. May he seek Your Kingdom above all else and live righteously, and may everything he needs be given to him.

And I thank You for him. I thank you that he would not be in this position outside of your permission. I thank You that all authority comes from You, and he would have no authority outside of You. I thank You that I live in a land where we have the freedom to vote and select our leaders. This is the leader You have allowed to be selected, so I thank you for him. (Daniel 2:21, John 19:11, Romans 13:1)
