Where Can I Find Hope In A Hopeless Situation?

My “Yet” today is greater than my yesterday!

That phrase has become a mantra for me in my life.  That one word, yet, has become such a powerful word for me over the last couple of years.  As I was reading through the Scriptures, I began to notice, time and time again, the word “yet” used as a powerful conjunction.

The writers would talk about their past, pain, problems, trials, tragedies and loss.  They would describe hopeless situations and then they would say, “Yet!”  What a powerful word that is.  That word yet has the power to bring hope to my hopelessness.

Lamentations 3:19-24  The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words.  20 I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss.  21 YET I still dare to hope when I remember this:  22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends!  His mercies never cease.  23 Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.  24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”

Notice what Jeremiah says:  “I’ll never forget this awful time as I grieve over my loss…YET!”  That’s such a powerful statement.  “Yes, I still hurt, but YET I will hope!  Yes, I’m in pain but YET I will trust His plan.  Yes, I have experienced great loss but YET I still have the love of Jesus!  Yes, I have questions but YET I am confident that God still cares about me.”  Yet, is such a powerful word!

So here’s the challenge.  Don’t let what happened yesterday be greater than your yet today!  Or you could claim it this way, “My yet today is greater than my yesterday!”

God’s mercies begin afresh each morning.  That means that tomorrow when you wake up, the Lord still loves you, He still cares for you and He is still with you!  Though the world around you might be crumbling, your God remains the same.  In the midst of my hopeless situation YET I will hope in Him.
