The One Responsibility Of The Leader

Most leaders want a group of people who follow their orders, right?  No leader wants to lead an organization where people don’t do what they say.  That’s ridiculous.  But of all the leadership principles, management styles and techniques you could employ out there, there is one thing that over shadows them all.

2 Chronicles 30:12 says At the same time, God’s hand was on the people in the land of Judah, giving them all one heart to obey the orders of the king and his officials, who were following the word of the Lord.

Every leader wants the “obey the orders of the king” part, but what we should focus on is the “follow the Word of the Lord” part.  People who follow your lead without being a leader who follows the Lord is pointless.  They might do what you want them to do, but you’ll only be building your Kingdom and not the Lord’s.

Maybe we should spend more time as leaders determining where God wants to take us than demanding where we want our team to get us.  Ouch!  If we’ve done our job as leaders in putting the right team around us, as we “follow the Word of the Lord” our people will “obey the orders of the king”.
